COMPETITION BRIEF

In 2021, Tata Elxsi, one of the leading design and technology services companies, organized or participated in various design competitions to foster innovation, creativity, and talent in the design community.

It explore forefront themes in technology and design. In the automotive category, participants envision sustainable, electric, and autonomous mobility. The digital experience theme requires intuitive interfaces for various digital platforms.

In 2023, we initiated a targeted redesign of the admin settings for the RevGen.tool within Cove.tool, a revenue generation and analysis application initially developed for small businesses.

As its user base diversified across various industry sectors, the existing experience struggled to accommodate the emerging use-cases and scalability requirements. Our redesign efforts aimed to modernize the interface for different use cases, enhancing performance and flexibiltiy.

RESEARCH QUESTION

"How can we encourage wider adoption of the EV app and foster a sense of enthusiasm and security among current users compared to its market competitors?"

CONTEXTUAL ENQUIRY

CONTEXTUAL ENQUIRY

CONTEXT

"Adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in India has been slow due to several key challenges. Range anxiety, or the fear of running out of power during a trip, is one of the major factors hindering EV adoption. This is largely due to the lack of adequate charging infrastructure in the country, which creates uncertainty for EV owners about the availability of charging stations.

Additionally, there is a general lack of awareness regarding the technology and its capabilities, which can also contribute to hesitation among potential buyers.

The "30/30 Challenge" often refers to India's ambitious plan to significantly increase the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) as part of its broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and dependency on fossil fuels. The target, commonly interpreted as aiming for 30% of vehicles to be electric by 2030, is part of India's national policy to encourage the use and manufacture of electric vehicles.

FAME India Scheme: Subsidies for purchasing EVs.

Tax Benefits: Reduced GST on EVs and income tax deductions for EV buyers.

Infrastructure Development: Investment in EV charging stations.

State-Level Initiatives: Additional subsidies and incentives from state governments.

Public Awareness: Campaigns to educate about EV benefits.

Support for Manufacturing: Incentives for manufacturing EV

Market Research:
Uncovering the competition

As part of our market research for the convoy EV app in India, we conducted surveys and focus groups with potential users to gain insights into their attitudes and behavior towards EVs. We also analyzed data on current EV ownership and charging infrastructure in different regions of the country.

Based on this research, we have developed strategies to address these pain points and provide a seamless user experience through our app, positioning us to effectively meet the needs of the growing EV market in India.

SURVEY #1

SURVEY #1

I carried out exhaustive market analysis
on the existing podcast platforms to
grasp capabilities.

Setting: Our target audience for the EV app in India are individuals who are interested in purchasing an electric vehicle or own an electric vehicle. We gathered 30 survey responses using online platforms and identified potential users through advertisements and social media networks.

The survey focuses on the following areas:
Awareness and perception of EVs, charging infrastructure, range anxiety, and buying behavior.

SURVEY #2 :

SURVEY #2 :

Setting:
The target audience for our campaign is the second-generation Indian population, aged between 18 and 35.
To better understand the needs and preferences of this demographic, we conducted a survey using Google Forms.

The survey was distributed through our personal and professional networks, as well as through social media platforms, to reach as many potential users as possible.

PERSONA

PERSONA

For a profound comprehension
of user objectives, we established
two unique personas

They were based on user interviews and surveys, and we kept updating them throughout the project as we gathered more data. We used these personas whenever we wanted to step out of ourselves and reconsider our initial idea.

Designing the user flow for

the app involved careful

consideration of user needs.

The app should provide a seamless experience, guiding the user through each step of the journey, from searching for available charging stations to scheduling a charging appointment.

The flow should be intuitive, allowing the user to quickly and easily complete the desired task.

Design DNA

We developed our Design DNA and Minimal Viable Product (MVP) parameters based on the primary and secondary research insights. We picked the main keywords and developed the MVP for our product.

The Design DNA focused on introducing :
A Design process optimized for human motivation in a system, as opposed to pure efficiency, fosters great feasibility and use-ability.

User-Centric Design

Using Gamification and Rewards

The use of gamification and rewards in an electric vehicle (EV) charging app can be an effective way to encourage and motivate users to adopt more sustainable habits and behaviors.

By incorporating elements of game design, such as points, badges, and leaderboards, the app can make the experience of finding and using EV charging stations more engaging and rewarding.

We used various gamification techniques for the user to engage in the application, they were listed down below in the diagram.
